Retail Building D5 Project

Design 5: Retail Building Project
For this project we were to choose a retail item we wanted to display through a unique building design focused around the merchandise. For my item I had chose home items such as furniture and decor items for a home such as frames, candles, etc. The concept I had focused on throughout my design was the idea of asymmetrical balance and how this creates a unique design that draws the attention of customers to the merchandise. I was inspired by the idea of stacking crates and the concept of layering.
For this project, sustainability had to be a major part of our design so for my design I focused on the recycling of old furniture and how to refurbish it into something new. The right wall of the building had become a display of crates that were reused by placing plants inside to create a unique wall decor piece that could be used in a home. The left side of the building had been used for the display showrooms that are stacked one on top of the other and used to draw attention to the customer towards the furniture displayed in each which is the main focus of the building. Each showroom had been a unique theme and a separate experience from the right side of the building. The center area is shown for smaller display of items throughout and the cash wrap area, which brings together both sides.
The downstairs is mainly the interactive area where crates could be created into wall decor pieces by picking plants that are on the shelving to the left.a recommended by the jurors in my critique, crates could also be transformed into a different form of decor by alternating plants with other items such as christmas gifts or display of merchandise to create a unique wall that can be used throughout the year. There are also interactive displays throughout the downstairs that talk about the refurbishment of antique furniture and what each piece looks like before and after it is redone through this process.
